The Seven Branched Candlestick

As we daily partake of God's word, symbolized by the Table of Shewbread, the entrance of this Word "gives light; it gives understanding to the simple." (Psalm 119:130). The enlightenment of the believer is symbolized by the seven-branched candlestick on the south side of the holy place. Christ is "the true light which giveth light to every man who comes into the world,. . . full of grace and truth." (John 1:9, 14). And we who believe in Him are said to be "the light of the world." (Matthew 5:14). He is the Light represented by the candlestick, and we are His light bearers.

It is the privilege and Duty of every believer to share the good news of salvation with those in darkness. Jesus says to His followers, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16). "For you were once in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light." ( Ephesians 5:8). Every child of God is a living missionary to those within his sphere of influence. Having become "new creatures" through the reconciling influence of the gospel, "we are ambassadors for Christ." (2 Corinthians 5:17-20). We are representatives of the heavenly kingdom to the hurting, searching people of this world. As recipients of God's glorious salvation, we are called upon to allow the Lord to find expression of His truth through our lives. When we permit the healing virtue of divine love to pour forth from our hearts, the hurting people of earth will be healed by the Christ who abides within us. —
